A lot of different types of media are all being thrown into one bucket that's been labeled "news sources". I'm an avid reader of Jacobin and my guess is that those folks would be surprised to hear that they're thought of by anyone as a "news source". I certainly was.

I don't read Jacobin or Foreign Affairs or The Atlantic or The American Prospect or Washington Monthly or Mother Jones for "news". I read them BECAUSE they are left of center, not in spite of it. It's their point of view that I'm interested in.

On the other hand, I don't listen to NPR much any more because it's gotten to be neurotic in its desire to be seen as "neutral".

The better question to ask would have been, "To what extent do the various media simply make shit up?"
