Listen, the rest of your post indicates that you and I are mostly on the same page with respect to the shortcomings and outright failures of democratic capitalism. But your point seems to be (and I'm open to correction if I'm wrong) that the pie isn't growing and, in fact, is probably getting smaller so we need to dump the whole enterprise. My point is that the pie has been and is growing and it's big enough to do a lot of good but we're just refusing to do so. We could have universal, single payer health care but we don't...not because our economy sucks but because people suck. My guess is that you'll argue that we can't separate people's behavior and ideology from the structure of the economy they participate in but Canada and UK and France pull it off. We should be able to as well. There's no reason why we can't except...some people (e.g., Mitch McConnell and Jim Jordan, among many others) are assholes.
