Dude, sports was invented for exactly these situations. You wait for the antagonist to take a breath, then you say, "How about them (insert name of team you have an idea the antagonist is interested in here)?" I've found it usually works the first time but might take a second or third attempt with real batwing crazies.

That and the "thousand yard stare" always works for me.
