I always like articles that go back to history to develop the "how we got here story" and your piece clearly does that. But any article that starts with "Dwight Eisenhower was one of America's finest presidents." is suspect from the beginning.

There's a reason pretty much no one has ever heard of the Civil Rights Act of 1957....it didn't do much of anything.
