I'm going to push back just a bit on one of the points you made. I don't think that it's altogether true that Democrats "retreated from rural America". The ACA helped rural Americans as much as, maybe more than, urban Americans. Same with Medicaid expansion in those states where the GOP didn't prevent it. Same with the COVID stimulus bill passed back in March with NO Republican votes. Same with the BIF and the BBB.

Local newspapers recently reported that fascist favorite Gym Jordan of far west Ohio has introduced ONE bill in this Congress. He and his ilk have found that rural voters are willing to (quite literally) commit suicide so long as Republicans support domestic terrorists.
