This alone is worth the read. I never thought of this but I think it has the ring of truth.
There's a whole genre of movies and TV shows that should make the list: it's the "pain and suffering of well-to-do white people" theme. The Streep-Tommy Lee Jones film "It's Complicated" always comes immediately to my mind but there are gazillions of them. "Parenthood" was a TV example.
Because, of course, the dysfunctions of neurotic white people are always more interesting than the indignities and suffering that black families experience every day of their lives. Right?
All that said...sometimes movies are just movies. I'm somewhere to the left of Bernie Sanders but, if I were to reveal the list of my own "all time favorites" (which includes The Godfather and Godfather II), you'd think I was a candidate for Idaho state office.
But...you're overall point is well taken.
